The New Plumbing Law 2002
The new state plumbing law became effective March 31, 2003.
Section 41[5] of the Act provides that master plumbers, journey plumbers, and apprentice plumbers are required to carry their license and a photo-identification.
When requested by an enforcing agency, an individual is required to present both the license or registration and photo-identification.
Contractors who have non-registered apprentices on individual job sites or work areas will be in violation of the Act and subject to penalties. Each apprentice on a job location must be supervised by a licensed plumber. So what does all this mean to the average consumer? Some contractors sit in offices and send out individuals to do code related work who are not licensed and poorly trained, and they charge you the rate of a licensed man. If the work is not done right it can cost you even more in the long run, by having to have the work done over to correct the mistakes. Make sure you are getting what you’re paying for. Ask the plumber at your door to show you his plumbing license and identification.
